Default connecting laptop to a monitor

I'm trying to connect my Sony Vaio laptop (model pcg - 7v1m) to a Dell monitor. The cable from the monitor does not fit on my laptop and I have searched online for a downloadable manual for my laptop, but I can't find any.

It was my brothers monitor and he used to connect his laptop to it (also a vaio) so I know it can be done. But unfortunately, he's not around anymore to tell me how.

I'm very new at this, and honestly, have no clue what to use or anything so any help would be appreciated.

Is it VGA or DVI?
