confusing laptop

I have a number of machines but my little backup machine is a Toshiba Satelite 2510cds. (P2-300)

I Had a problem in that the machine would not run on it's battery ie. as soon as the AC to DC power pack was removed the machine died.

Believing this to be the battery I replaced same yesterday but the same thing is happening. Does anybody have a clue as to what may be the problem as this is frustrating in that I can't use the portability function of the machine.

In the power screen the battery is reported to be 100% charged and that it will last 4 hrs + before recharging.

I have the same problem... It says the battery is at 100%, but when you unplug it, it just dies. Like he said above. I haven't tried getting a new battery pack though, and I have a Compaq something-or-other... Not sure, but it's pretty old. I would like to get it back though, it would help with schoo'.
