AMD CPU's clock speeds needs to be mutiplied by 1.5 to get correct intel speed ratings, this is apart from all the other benefits of the CPU, AMD cpus just perform 1.5x more instructions then an Intel CPU on every clock cycle so a 2GHz AMD is a 3GHz Intel.

in actual fact its faster then an intel CPU for games and many multimedia performance benchmarks.

well.. frequency is measured in HERTZ, and we're using gigaHERTZ, so yes, it is the same thing. only calculated by thousand x thousand

the frequency of an athlon 64 3500+ is 2.2ghz, it is the same as an intel 3.0?

you can't call one the same because of the different archetectures. there's no hard equivilant. amd would say the "xxxx+" number is the equivalent of that processor in intel. however, somethings amds are faster at, some intel, but right now amd tends to be winning the battle of price vs. performance.
