Computer Upgrade Help!

i am in need of help. i would like to max out my socket 423 system. most ppl are probably gonna say to just buy a new computer, but i got this for free and would like to utilize it. here is my specs:
-D850GB intel socket 423 chipset
-Pentium 4 1.7 ghz
-256mb RDRAM (64x4)
-NVIDIA FX5200 128mb : dont really care about upgrading video card
-soundblaster live card
-dvd-rw
-350W PS

FUTURE MODS
-423 to 478 socket converter
-atleast 512mb :the shit is expensive
-ETC

there may be dip switches on the board so you can run the cpu at more mhz but i think you will be lucky to make this system run faster

more ram would help quite much. I wouldn't upgrade anything else, probably not going to be worth it.
