Hey guys, I'm new to building computers, and I need some
help. I bought a barebones kit from tigerdirect and put it
all together myself. Everything in the computer is brand new
except for my hard drive and sound card. When I start my
computer, everything turns on (CPU, hard drive spools up) but
I hear no beep and I see nothing on the monitor, when means
(I'm assuming) it didn't make it to POST. *Does anyone
have any idea why? This is all brand new except for my hard
drive and sound card, which have worked just fine on my old
computer. I even used latex gloves when installing everything
to avoid ESD, and I have standoffs underneath the
motherboard. I've tried disconnecting everything, including
alternating RAM cards.*

I did put a brand new video card in there as well (which is
the only place the monitor can connect to). I tried
disconnecting that and still no beep.*

If anyone is ever so kind to help me out, I'd appreciate it
beyond words. Maybe the motherboard is DOA?*

There could be a number of issues going on here.

Double check all connections. A common rookie mistake is forgetting to connect the 4 or 8 pin CPU power to the motherboard. If that is not connected, the system will not POST.

Does your motherboard have a speaker on it?

Also test the motherboard outside of the case. Lay the mobo on cardboard/wood, have CPU and heatsink installed and one stick of memory. Nothing else.

Hook PSU and monitor and use a screwdriver to touch the pins for power switch. If you get the BIOS on the screen then you know they're good.

Put the mobo in case, install the PSU and hook 'em up. Do the test again. If you get the BIOS again then the board is installed correctly (eliminating the standoffs in wrong places.)

Install one component at a time and test.
