If you want dirt cheap PC, don't expect it to be a gaming machine. Here's what I would build for a cheap system:

Motherboard:
MSI K8T Neo-V Socket 754 VIA K8T800 ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813130498

CPU:
AMD Sempron 64 2600+ Palermo 800MHz FSB 128KB L2 Cache Socket 754 Processor - Retail
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819104249

Memory:
CORSAIR ValueSelect 256MB 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Unbuffered DDR 400 (PC 3200) System Memory - Retail
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145025

Hard Drive:
Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 8 6E040L0 40GB 7200 RPM 2MB Cache IDE Ultra ATA133 Hard Drive - OEM
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822140133

CD-RW:
Rosewill Gray 52X CD-R 32X CD-RW 52X CD-ROM 2M Cache IDE CD Burner - Retail
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827190014

Case:
POWMAX CP0327PL-4 Window Black/Silver SGCC ATX Mid Tower Computer Case 400W Power Supply
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811145047

Video Card:
Leadtek A340-T-128MB Geforce FX5200 128MB 64-bit DDR AGP 4X/8X Video Card - Retail
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814122177

Use onboard sound.

Keyboard and mouse:
KEYBOARD-2000 KB-118W/PS2 Beige 104 Normal Keys 3 Function Keys PS/2 Wired Standard Keyboard - Retail
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16823131115

KEYBOARD-2000 HM2002/42P White 2 Buttons 1x Wheel PS/2 Ball Mouse
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16826129001

Now that is a cheap system. Total price not including tax: $332.64 US

$700 Australian dollars is $534.431 USD for anyone else who tries to help acottenham out.

You can use xe.com to convert money.

Acottenham, what do you have in your computer now? You can probably keep some of it to save $$$.

The motherboard I pointed out on the previous page is pretty good. You can go with any MSI motherboard. They are super good. Get a Sempron CPU for budget purpose. For memory, again, refer to the previous page for my suggestion. If you want to spend more on that, get it up to 512MB at least. The graphics card from Leadtek I picked for you is also good too because it supports DirextX 9. IT's still a basic card though.
