Default Computer benchmarking

Well, I'm gonna be building my rig soon I hope, about 2 weeks. Anyway, what benchmarking programs should I use to test the system out to make sure everything is working fully.

Use Prime95 for stress testing to be sure it's stable and that your temperatures will remain safe. 3DMark06 for performance testing.

As worship said use prime95 or orthos for stress testing and 3dmark06 for testing out your GPU.

I use Everest's bench suite when I'm overclocking. You can save all your overclock data to see how much faster your equipment is running as you overclock.

Prime95 will push you rig to the it's limits so the temperatures you obtain from that will be the absolute maximums.
