Default coa code for 982nd edition work on xp?

Can i be advised

I my friend has a tiny.com pc running windows98 2n edition that installs from a recovery disk asking for no key code
I have on side of my tower a Coa sticker an was wondering if i planned to upgrade to xp could i purchess a OEM full version of xp for clean install, that requires a coa an use the one thats on side on my tower currently running windows 98 2nd edition

The activation code will come with the OEM or retail versions, which ever you get. The win98/98se activation code wil only work with win98/98se.
