Default Is clock speed the only difference between Dual core processors?

i see that core 2 duos are the most common and pretty much standard dual core, but all the computers i see with them are only in the 2. somethin range, i have a pentium D dual core at 3.2 GHz. since the c2d's are newer, is there an advantage to those even tho the lower speed? i know theres faster, but why would they be selling higher end computers with the new processors at 2.x when the older models (mine) had 3.x dual cores

Core 2 duo's do about double per mhz compared to Pentium Dual's. So you'd need a dual 4.8ghz P4 to match a 2.4ghz Core 2 Duo.
