The same question all the time...

AMD is better for gaming and Intel is better for multimedia applications.

Amd, is better at handleing data, and intel is better at processing it. Thats why amd is a gaming processor, and intels are such great servers.

Right now, AMD is better. One of the main difference and reason why AMD are reasonably better is because their Athlon 64 processors have an internal circuit called the "memory controller". In the other processors there is no such circuit, and it is the north bridge that performs the communication task with the RAM memory. AMD speeds this process up by taking advantage of this memory integration.

Well for music encoding etc, Intel usually performs better due to the extra cache their processors have. So it is a trade trade situation...after all, it depends what you really need it for.

Clearly, AMD is a lot more sufficient.
Intels are better at applications, but lets be honest with ourselves. Who needs speed when dealing with Microsoft Word?
Encoding is the other thing Intel can do, but that's about it.

AMD procesors can do games very well and handles stress a lot better than any Intel processor. Go with AMD

AMD processors are overall the better ones to get in this case. AMD has a better data-per-clock ratio then intel does. Not to mention, they have an internal memory controller. Intel based CPUs are really good if you want to multitask. But, how many programs are you seriously going to multitask? Like Quinton said, "Let's be real." Are you really going to be running a...

MP3 conversion...
Antivirus Scan...
Spyware Scan...
MS Word/Excel/Powerpoint...
Playing Solotaire...
Browsing the internet...
Downloading a file...
Extracting a file...
Defragmenting a Hard Drive...

All at the same time? Because in all honesty, if you want to experience the true difference between an AMD multitasking and an Intel multitasking processor, then that's what you'll need. Because AMD's excel in single applications, such as gaming. Which is why it makes them a better choice to go for. So, ask yourself, will you be running 10 programs at the same time? If not, get AMD.

Not all apps are just Microsoft Word...

Like I said, it depends what you need it for...
