Im helping a friend with a build and I cant decide what cpu to get...i want either an AMD athlon 64 X2 5600+ or 6000+ or an intel C2D e6420

If he had the money for the e6600 i probably wouldnt be here because thats an easy decision...but yeah the 6600 is way out of price range which is why i kinda wanted to know if the 6420 is better than either the 5600 or the 6000 amd's......um and i think that the 6000 amd is out of the picture because from all that i hear its kinda like the intel thing where the 5600 is the base model (like intels e6600) and the 6000 is just an oc'd version (like intels e6700), so might as well just buy the 5600 and oc it... so try and answer these questions for me if you can!

Which is better out of each of these:
1) AMD's 5600 or 6000 (i have kinda decided on this, and i think the 5600 is better)
2) an intel 6420 oc'd to 6600 standards or a stock 6600 which would not be oc'd
3) An AMD 5600 stock clock or an intel 6420 stock clock
4) An AMD 5600 clocked to the 6000 standard (from 2.8ghz to 3.0ghz) or an intel 6420 clocked up to the 6600 standard (from 2.13ghz to 2.4ghz)

if you can answer all these without amd or intel favortism, just true stats/info...i will probably jump up and down...THEN TRACE YOUR IP SO I CAN GIVE YOU A BIG HUGE HIGH FIVE IN PERSON!!! lol....jk but seriously...if someone can answer those 4 questions i would be absolutely delighted....

My take:

1) The 6000+ is obviously faster, but not necessarily "better". I'd personally get the 5600+. At stock speeds, it's simply not worth it to pay ~$80 more for 200MHz, plus the 6000+ has more heat output (125w vs. 89W), meaning it runs hotter. I don't know about comparing them OCed; I think they OC about the same.

EDIT: I was referring to Newegg's OEM 6000+, I didn't notice the Retail was $60 cheaper. Still not worth $20 extra IMO.

2) The OCed E6420, simply because it's cheaper. Plus, you'd probably be running your RAM faster.

3) They are about the same at stock, dependent on the application. I'd say the 5600+ has a slight edge.

4) I'd go with the E6420. You have a better chance reaching E6600 speeds with a E6420 than you would trying to reach 6000+ speeds with a 5600+, IMO. And the E6600 beats the 6000+ in most, not all, applications.

thanks....that is what i was leaning towards as well..yes, see the 6000 runs hotter and takes more power because its essentially just a 5600 oc'ed which is why you can oc it as (% wise) versus the 5600. I think I'm going to go with a 6420, even though it is 35 dollars more than the 5600, just because intels use less power, have better technology, oc better, run more stable, and run cooler...however, Im still riding it out until the 22 and 24 of this month when intel and amd (respectively) drop their prices when they intorduce their new lines for q3

Thanks for the help

Zac
