Cheap Fast Processor to replace AMD-K6-2

I want to buy a new processor for my computer. It dosint need to be crazy fast, but average speed so my computer can run smoother and faster.

I have an "old school" computer. Its a IBM Aptiva, 249MB SDRAM,a AMD-K6-2 550mhz. Thats all I know right now. I want to know what processor is compatible with my computer. If you need any more infomation about my computer....please tell what you need and how I can fidn it.

my advice to you, replace the whole computer. Its not worth to upgrade only the cpu.

Ok so then what computer should i buy...i dont want a super mega gaming package thing. Somthign avergare that is reliable and upgradable.

Seems like any computer built this year would do. There are some nice ones for a few hundred dollars at Dell. Even a basic Athlon 64 or a Core Duo CPU powered PC would do you nicely.

ya Best Buy had an E6300 gateway for like $600 or $700...
