Cd-rom failure?

my computer have a dvd drive and a cd-rw drive, they are aproximately 5 years old adn i wouldnt be surprise if they are broken, dirty or another reason. My computer really blows, but now when i insert a cd it can detect it and ive tried everything i can think of......ocassionally i can get the dvd rom to work , but the cd-rw has worked at all for 5 months. They both wokred fine one day but then i wen ton vacation and POW my misery began

Its probably worth buying a cheap DVD Player, and testing it out on both of the IDE Cables. That way you'll see if either is working.

You can buy a CD BUrner for around £20, and a DVD ROM for avout £15....
