CD / DVD Burner help

When you buy a CD or DVD Burner they will come in two types.
IDE or SATA

I picked an IDE Interface Type because I wanted to keep all my SATA Interface Ports open to me for more Hard Drives.

What I would like to know is this?
If you buy a CD DVD Burner it will play CDs and DVDs by streaming the Data and it will only play it as fast as the Data comes down the stream.

So me getting a IDE or SATA interface DVD Burner will still play the same.

So my gess is the big diferance in getting a SATA Interface DVD Burner will come in when I am Coping from my Computer to Disc or Burning Data to Disc am I right???
