Yeah, im not getting it. My other hard drive (that has an Os) wont slave. I hook it up and all, and change bios, but my computer just doesnt recodnize it I guess.

Does anyone have any insight for me?

Well, you didnt mention doing it but im sure you did. You set up the jumpers correctly? If you did, then try to use the cable select feature. Only things I can think of right now.

Well, that is something that confused me. Maybe the drive is too old. My [old] computer used those long ribbon strips, and my new one uses the 4-pin connector, because my new computer doenst have the ribbon cables.

So im probably being an idiot and im not even able to use it...?

Sure.....

Lol, to tell you the truth, right now is guess and check for me. I really dont know to much about this. But I knew enough to back mystuff up :D

Anyways.. lets have a look..

yes, one is IDE, and the other is a new one. And I cant take it out because of the stupid dell caseing.

Ill get it out if needed.

Ok, by the looks of it the new on is sata. It is possible to set it all up, so thats not a problem. There have been many threads on this, where people have said the same thing, the computer doesnt read the ide because it is using the sata connectors(something like that who knows I could be wrong, but im sure im in the ball park) anyhow just wait for someone else because thats all I know :) its something about the bios I think, illl look on google for you.

Hmm..

Well the thing is that the IDE has the same connections on it as the SATA. The only difference is that my SATA doesnt have the ribbon, and my IDE does.

Sorry, its crude. Damn phone.

Are you sure its sata, second you sure the wire, just isnt rounded cable? They both could be ide.

This is still IDE, even though it doesnt look the the ribbon. Its called rounded cable..Is this what you have

and then here is the normal ide...which is the same thing but just looks ugly in a clear case..

And now here is the main question do you have this, this is the sata cable

Another way to find out for sure if the new hard drive is a sata, just go to device manager, properties, details. Then get back to me..Im preety sure one of them is sata and the other one is ide. Yeah I cant make anything out in the pic lol

Your right, they are IDA ATA

And I have something that is or close to that first pic. And I do have the second picture hdd cable.

Take some pictures of your hard drive's interfaces. It'll certainly help clear things up.
