cant make backup

i am trying to make a backup of diablo, cause its getting pretty scratched up. When i go to copy it, it says it cant copy diabdat.mpq cause its protected or something, and i need this to play the game. is there a way i can bypass this?

How are you making the backup? Do you drag the files to the backup disk or use the cd copy feature?

i tried sonics record now plus exact copy feature and dragging it using explorer it says there is a cycle redundancy check error or something.
