Default can't load kernel file

thats what it says when the bios is loading up. what is that? i know i have to repair it but how? this is a dell XPS 400, i go to the boot menu and for some reason it doesnt notice the windows xp dvd thats in the drive. I need to fix this ASAP because its the family Pc and a few people will be ticked

i finally got my xp cd workin, and i repped the partition. It reboots and says NTLDR is missing. I have no idea what that is. and my very last resort is gonna be installing a fresh copy of windows. Please help!!

Try Recovery Console by pressing R on the Setup Screen. Then, type fixmbr and type fixboot.

after i do the commands: copy e:\i386\ntldr c:\ it said access denied, yes i logged in as administrator.
