Default Can I do anything with this computer?

So I have an old Desktop PC (Ill put the specs in the bottom), and I was wondering if I could upgrade it to today Standards (Gaming PC or close to it?). What else can I do with this PC? Excuse me if I sound stupid as I am fairly new to this!
Thanks
Dan

Short answer, no. That platform is horrendously outdated.

To get it close to today's gaming PC, you pretty much would only keep the case and accessories (mouse, keyboard, etc.).

Are you interested in trying out Linux by any chance?

yeah Linux is the "only thing you can do". I say that because this PC will never be anything near gaming. Unless of course, solitaire is your thing. Then gaming is completely possible.

Put in the max amount of RAM (1GB) and it will run XP SP3. It won't be super quick. But you can sell it like that for a little bit if someone is willing to buy. Or turn it into a file server with an extra hard drive added.

FS is not a bad idea. It would be like your very own Dropbox (but then you also have to calculate the power consumption, and the older the computer, the less efficient they are -- might be cheaper to just buy a proper cloud storage service in the end).

There's really not going to be a real noticeable difference in your energy bill. I've been running a file server for years. My current one has 5 hard drives in it. The amount of energy it uses is worth it for the usefulness of it to me. I have 3 computers and I use it to share files between them.

I hope to set one up myself. Its very cheap and easy to run, You can get versions of linux that operate as a server and its better than using cloud storage..
