Can government recover erased HDD data?

There is a tool out there, I cant remember the name. that I think fragments the drive so much its not recoverable.

hehe you better watch out that they don't read forums... they might come after your drive now purposely... opps :p

Have fun wrecking that drive :D... I put mine into a freezer to try and fix it, not kill it, as it wouldn't boot, and turns out chip had gone so useless, and you know? I went out and sledgehammered it...wel hammered it :p and lol, its still ready for more beating... ohhhh poor harddrives hehehehehehehehe

p.s I'm not mad by the way

If you destroy the platter of the hard drive. So basically the cops are coming down your street you hear ther sirens so you take it out and take a hammer to it and its gone........and then you find out that they werent co :D ming for u

lol that is the only problem :(

why would you need to be destroying your HDD then? :D

If a hard drive suddenly fails on you and is unrecoverable because something fatal had failed! Why shouldn't you enjoy beating it to death...well not death, its already dead but... you get my drift?! HEHEHEHE *cough*

lol, very good, am i correct in sayin if you format your HDD 3 times in a row then no data will be able to be accessed? one more thing if the FBI, CIA are coming down the road how do you have the time to open your computer, take your HDD out and kill it. ??

a format will only rease the first bit of each sector...

to truely erase a disk you have to do what is called scrubbing, (where every bit is written and re-written)...

even then some reminance of the residue will be left and is readable (to specialist labs)

five pass scrubbing is the standard for saying that the disk is unreadable.
