Default Buzzer on modem purpose

Is the buzzer on an internal modem card intended to indicate errors or completions, or does it make the same "neeeaboaaanaaaba...eaateaateaabababataaaaaaaaneee eeaneeeeeeabchchchc..." that 56 kbps modems do.

It lets you listen to the handshake and then shuts off. It's not a buzzer btw, it's a piezo speaker.
Dialup, how neanderthal...

I also think that the setup menu lets you choose if you want to hear the speaker or not. Is the handshake that sound I mentioned earlier or is it the sound of the fax sending.

It's just to acknowledge the two computers have connected. After you hear the boingy boingy beboooooooooooooooo screeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee the speaker shuts off. Even if it stayed on you wouldn't hear anything of value as the marker tone is modulated at a rate too fast for the human ear to decipher.
