I've bught 4 laptops in 5 weeks, so I can say that I have a bit of experience with them.
There are 3 type of laptop/notebook.
The small, portable & light with good battery life.
Medium weight with a bit more power.
And the desktop replacement catagorie which as you may have guessed, tend to be heavy, full powered with poor battery life.
If games are really important then the first catagorie can be rulled out.
The second catagorie could cost you quite a lot for a decent power version.
The heavy weights can be picked up fairly cheaply, but be warned, if your going to have to carry it around alot. your going to get Really sick of lumping the damned thing around.
I tryed all 3 types and ended up with the desktop replacement as I get frustrated with slow machines. But I will only be carrying it to the car, if I had to go much further I would not get one.
