Default Buying a new machine

Hello there.
My dad told me his friend works at a laptop company (unsure of the type) and he can get deals on laptops, he says that his friend can get 1500 dollar laptops for a grand or less.

My dad is going to be getting me one and I'm wondering, what should I expect from a 1500 dollar laptop? I want to make a list for my dad for the kind of stuff I want on my laptop.

For example, I want atleast 1 GB of ram, a AMD64 dual core 3500+ or higher cpu, and atleast a 160 GB hard drive, and a atleast 256 MB video card.
Is all that obtainable in a 1500 dollar laptop?

Intel Mobile Core 2 Duo T7500 Socket 478 @2.00GHz 800 MHz FSB 2 MB Cache Intel GM965 Chipset 2048 MB Dual Channel PC3200 DDR2 Ram nVidia Geforce 8600GS 512 MB VC (LG R500)

Default Re: Buying a new machine

im not sure about $ as im from the uk but its roughly half or double which ever the case maybe and for a 750 laptop here $1500

you should expect a C2D T7100 1.8Ghz
160Gb hardrive
dedicated GPU with around 256 Mb

so yeah pretty much the spec you said.

but that is assuming laptops are the same price in uk and usa which they should be near enough.
