Default burning hire dvd's

hypothetically speaking is it possible to burn hire movies from blockbuster or other video store on a dvd burner? Or are they protected with some sort of copyright software?

i don't think so, but since we're on the subject, whats a good dvd copying program that can burn DIRECTLY from one drive to the dvd burner w/o using the hard drive as a temp place.
