Default Burning 16X on 8x DVDs

I just bougth a 16x dvd burner, but i was looking and i realized that DVDs that have 16x burning capabilites are really expensive!! is it possible to burn at a speed of 16x on 8x DVDS or do i have to wait??

Im pretty sure that your gonna have to wait to get some 16x's, because usually the speed on the disc is the MAXIMUM write speed, so I doubt you could burn 16x on an 8x, but you could still try i just dont think it would owrk.
