CPU-

Your choice is excellent

"Video card: One of the top NVIDIA ones (undecided)"

The 8800GTX should last you a while, but like others have mentioned, it may be worth waiting until Viesta arrives, and so, Direct X 10 featured games along with it, to test the card out, as this is what it was built for. To be the first card to support it.

The 8800GTS is also a nice starting point to this and is slightly lower in spec, yet I don't think its out quite yet.

You could be in two minds about these cards for that reason. They'll be fantastic for Direct X 9 games, yet, won't be able to do much more yet, and so, is a very expensive price to pay for something you can't take full advantage of.

You could though, buy a decent 7 series Nvidia card that'll play the games you'll want to play for a while, and then get a 8 series card when more come out, and so the prices will drop to more manageable amounts.

Monitor-

On a recent CustomPC review, these monitors came out on top:

"NEC MultiSync 20WGX2" acheving a Approved Rating, and the "Belinea 10 20 35W" achieving a Premium grade.

CPU cooler-

Well, since the Intel Core 2 DUO runs rather cool, a good old Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 should do wonders

Sound card-

If your going to game, a Sound Blaster X-FI will be the perfect choice. It also offers superior MP3 playback quality (Havent tested that myself)

Pretty sure that he'd need 2 8800GTX's? don't you think that's a tad bit overkill?

ok dont mean to high jack your thread but im also thinking about updating my pc and i was thinking along the line of what you have. pure gaming and media only. im going to wait till the ati editions of the directx10 cards comes out first before i update that. in the mean time i was thinking of this

CPU:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...odid=CP-128-IN

Mobo:

still looking, just having alook at the mobos celegrom and compman suggestions

Memory: would i be able to use the memory i have now (see sig) and then upgrade to ddr2 sometime next year?

Powersupply: keep same

edit: sound card:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...odid=SC-044-CL

or

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...odid=SC-032-CL

is it worth the extra 50 as I would like to keep prices as low as possible.
