Question Building new gaming rig NEED HELP!!

Ok. Im building a new gaming rig and I need some help on what works good together and what doesn't. Right now this is what I have picked to build it

Processor-AMD Athlon 64 3800+ Orleans 2000Mhz HT Socket AM2 Processor.
Computer Case-Gigabyte 3D Aurora Black Aluminum ATX full tower.
RW Drives-Lite-on 16x DVD-R DVD Burner Black.
Internal Hard Drive-Western Digital Caviar SE16 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s
Motherboard-ASRock 939Dual-SATA2 Socket 939 ULi M1695 ATX AMD Motherboard.
Power Supplies-Apevia (Aspire) ATX12v/EPS12v 680w

And I'm thinking about putting in 1Gb RAM and an NVIDIA graphincs card (Don't know whichc graphics card yet but I know it'll be NVIDIA).
If you have any suggestions please tell me I would really like to hear them.
Also could you please tell me if these things are compatible with each other?
I would really appreciate it.

Well, if youre making a gaming rig... than you want a MoBo with SLI compatibility, as well as a video card with SLI... but my advice to you is wait until next year to spend the big bucks on a video card because Direct X 10 will be coming out - from what Ive read - Q1 of 2007, and there will be new video cards made to support DX10. The currect video cards will still work fine, but you will not be able to use all the features of DX10.

the mobo u have chosen is socket 939 and the cpu is AM2. The sockets need to be the same. For the vid card u could go with a 7600GT, it's a pretty good card and doesn't cost too much.

My post is not really related to your thread but if you are planning on selling your old gaming rig, could you list the price and specs via pm?

Go Core 2 Duo - it'll be much more cost effective. i.e.

E6300
Gigabyte S3
1GB DDR2 RAM
nVidia 7600GT
Gigabyte 3D Aurora
Lite-on DVD burner
G5/MX518 mouse
Keyboard
Logitech 5.1 surround sound speakers
17" TFT monitor
480W Tagan PSU (Modular - TG-480U15)
Couple of Akasa Amber 120mm fans

There you go

I would suggest getting 2Gb of RAM instead of one. The 7600 GT should work nicely for atleast a year.

1GB is fine for now. 7600gt is a very good budget card.that 680watt psu is overkill, you can tune down on wattage if you want, and yeah you'll need to get an AM2 compatible motherboard if you want to use that core.

Since the original post had mismatch parts, how about I come up with a recommended build for playing games. I feel like I haven't done this in awhile so I may be rusty at this:

About time Antec came out with a 600+watt PSU:

Antec True Power Trio TP3-650 ATX12V 650W Power Supply with Three 12V Rails

Intel Core 2 Extreme X6800 Conroe 1066MHz FSB 4M shared L2 Cache LGA 775 Processor
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115001

ASUS P5N32-SLI SE Deluxe Socket T (LGA 775) NVIDIA nForce4 SLI X16 ATX Intel Motherboard
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131031

CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM Unbuffered DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit System Memory
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145035

A couple of these should do the trick:

eVGA 512-P2-N568-AR Geforce 7900GT KO 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card

um.. given his first post i'm guessing that he doesn't have a 2000 dollar + budget.

That's a damn fine system for $3,000+. Get a couple of high speed hard drives and a good case with efficient cooling.
