yes it is. It is all 184-pin DDR. Kuberr, the WD Raptor has the worse price to storage ratio. IMHO it is a complete waste of money. Get two SATAII drives and raid them.

will sataII work with the motherboard and how do i RAID them?? sorry if i'm hesistant about the compatability but i tried a build before with my father and found the motherboard wasn't compatable with anything, the video card wasn't compatable with the operating system (98se), and then found that the new video card wasn't compatable with our version of linux. argh...so much work wasted. and the time factor too.

Ultra-D supports SATAII. To RAID them you need to run a program and install RAID and SATAII drivers.

ok i've made some selections using much of what ownage suggested. great ideas right in my price range. so here is what i'm looking at:

motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813136152

cpu: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103535

video card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814150118

hard drive(x2): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148032

OS: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16837102071

psu: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...273332&CatId=0

case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811129154

memory: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820208136

monitor: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...2E16824103212R

so how do these choices look? would love suggestions especially because this is near the high end of my price range. if there are any lower priced substitutions or compatability problems please inform me.

Everything looks fine. That monitor is pretty good for the price. Oh, it's refurbished. The case is very nice, but do you want to know what I think is the BEST? This case is exactly the same price, well, 1-cent more. Big whoop there. It's got 4 total fans including 2x 120mm and 2x 80mm also includes PCI slot and CPU cooler. Check it out:

Lian Li PC-60APlus Silver Aluminum ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Retailhttp://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811112077

I've been advertising this case in quite a few threads already. It's simply the best. The reviews on it are all positive, not one bad review, provides superior cooling compared to most other cases. Case material and constuction is A+++ off the wall. (lol, reminds me of providing feedback off of eBay).

do you really need 400GB of space? Save the money and invest it in the RAM. Get some G.Skill 2X1GB.

is there a problem with refurbished products??? or just monitors?? i probably don't need 400GB of space but i'm run out of room before so i'm overcompensating. dam downloaded music and movies and shows and games, they take a lot of room. but if i ivested it in ram (i already am getting 2GB) will 3 or 4GB make much of a difference in game play or even day to day use?? i think the monitor has been taken off the site. is dual channel RAM better than others
(EX. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231039
VS.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231020)
which is better??should i assume that higher price = better product?? i would be so sad if that were true. lol.
Here's my new list:

motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...N82E16813136152

cpu: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...N82E16819103535

video card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...N82E16814150118

hard drive(1 or 2 i can't deside): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822144184

OS: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...N82E16837102071

psu: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicat...1273332&CatId=0

case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811112077

memory: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...N82E16820208136

monitor: (find one later after i have the rest)

oh yea, is there anything against buying stuff from ebay?? and no one answered my question as to what i should buy first??

Double check your links. They all have no results except for the case and hard drive. Refurbished monitors are ok. THey've been retested and reconditioned for retail. OOoooo, that case is pretty nice there. I'm getting the exact same one next year, if there's isn't a newer designed case. Cases hardly change at all anyways.
