Default Building my first computer...

(Hope this is the right place to put this!)

So, I've been trying to build a new computer for a while now, but since I know basically nothing about getting started, I asked my friend to help me, who had built his own previously. I don't know very much about picking parts and whatnot, so I basically listened to what he and others said, so bear with me. So he showed me a few things, then came upon this set up..

Western Digital Caviar Green WD5000AADS 500GB SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Hard Drive - OEM
OCZ Reaper HPC 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory

XFX HD-489A-ZDFC Radeon HD 4890 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Retail
GIGABYTE GA-MA770T-UD3P AM3 AMD 770 ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail
AMD Phenom II X4 945 3.0GHz Socket AM3 125W Quad-Core Processor

COOLER MASTER RS-700-AMBA-D3 700W ATX12V V2.3 SLI Certified CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply - Retail
COOLER MASTER RC-690-KKN1-GP Black SECC/ ABS ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Retail

The last two (power supply and case) come in a combo package thing.

Someone on another forum told me I can't use the ddr2 ram with the mobo, just would like some clarification on that too.

I'm just wondering what you guys think of it, because I'm not 100% sure of how reliable it may be and how everything connects and will work with each other.. Just want to get a second opinion to see your guys' ideas so that I know for sure that this is all right. Any advice or changes that you guys think I would be better off with would be greatly appreciated. The price right now seems pretty good. And I still need to find a monitor as well..

yep no ddr2 on that mobo,
looks like a pretty solid build, what are you planning on doing with it?
a few things though
1. you might want to go with a little higher end mobo ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131366)
2. dont get the xfx 4890 get this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814131156 (for 30 bucks more you get performance that rivals sapphires atomic radeon, i can provide benchmarks for anyone who does not believe me) or http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102841 (same price as sapphires stock card except you get vapor-x cooling)

3. you dont really need the 700 watt psu, you'd be fine with a 600 or even 500. you could use the money you save on the better mobo or video card

good luck

intel core-i7 920 4+ GHz with the thermaltech 120 extreme with adition 120mm fan lapped. mobo: asus p6t deluxe gpu: Sapphire 5870 OCED. PSU: power pc and cooling 910 watt RAM: Corsair 6GB ddr3 1600 HDD: two 640 Gb WB Caviar in RAID 0: coolermaster haf 932 with all red fans
monitor: samsung ToC T260 roseblack 25.5" 5ms 1920x1200

I'll be gaming as much as I can, but also using it for just browsing the Internet and other daily stuff.

So what RAM does work with the mobo?

I found a 600W that comes with a different case, wondering if the case will still be compatible with everything else? (http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboD...t=Combo.231324) Saves me some money too, like you said.

Also, I'll take a look at the mobo and graphics card, but if I keep with my current mobo, what will be the downside overall?
