Building a Computer...Need Help With Parts

Okay, as the subject says, I'm building a new copmuter. Since I'm new to the whole idea, I need some help with what types of equipment I should buy.

So I've decided I want a Athlon FX55 processor, and I need to know which motherboard goes best with the FX55.

In addition, should I buy Registered or Buffered memory to go with that motherboard; and what's the best/ most reliable brand of memory?

Also, do I need any additional fans or cooling devices in addition to the ones that are supplied by the parts? If so, what kind of cooling device would I need?

What type of power supply should I have? I'm planning on building an Athlon FX55, 400GB SATA ,2GB Memory, ATI Radeon 9600SE, Creative Sound Audigy ZS2 desktop, so I'm wondering how many watts of power I should need, and if there may be compatibility issues with a case.

Finally, I need a DVD+RW/CD-RW drive that's doub'e-write capable. Which brand should I buy? Also, if I buy a DVD+RW drive, will it be compatible with DVD-R, DVD-RW, and DVD+R?

Thanks, and if you could give me hyperlinks to sites with that information, it would be helpful.

y such a crappy GFX to go with such a good computer? how much are you willing to spend? and if u get the CPU retail rather than OEM, u have a CPU fan included....which case are you planning on getting? u should get a 480W+ by antec because they make good PSUs....and there are many brands of memory that are good...make sure to get DDR pc3200 or higher....either kingston, geil, mushkin, corsair, and crucial are all good companies....MSI makes GREAT motherboards....i have one and it is wonderful....if u are getting a PCI-E GFX card make sure you are getting a motherboard with a nforce 4 chipset, if you are going AGP, get one with a nforce 3 chipset....

wow that sounds like a nice pc... i dont really kno too much aboot mobos so ill let somone else handle that. since ur vc is not that gr8 or huge or w/e u need aboot a 400-500 watt psu. if u want stuff to work well u do need a lot of cooling. since u seem to be able to afford it get watercooling or something. or a really nice hs. what will u be doing w/ ur pc?

All I ask is that you don't waste your $ on DDR

DDR SUCKS! I hope that was clear enough. There's a reason DDR2 came out. But seriously you should check it out cause you don't want to limit yourself while having that bad ass 64fx processor. Here's a link for 2x1024 http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1010980 . That runs at 533mhz and they do also have pc5400 that runs around 667+Mhz. Just keep in mind that you cannot upgrade to ddr2, you'd have to buy another board. Check it out, hope it's of use. I think my 512 pc133 out performs my dads way newer 512 ddr. And in reguardsto the hard drive, of course, getting a 150 Mhz drive is better than an 133 Mhz one, but not worth the money for the barely mentionable gain in performance. On the other hand you can look at scsi drives that spin at 10k rpm to 15k rpm, and have a seek time at least half that of the SATA. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1193800&Tab=2&NoMapp=0 This drive is still 146gb, plenty big, and not that much more than the new 400gb SATA's. If money is a big factor, I'd get a 200gb maxtor ata-133 that is way less and is only .6 ms slower than most SATA's. These two links i found pretty quickly, and you might be able to find those items cheaper somewhere else online.

ummm amd boards dont support ddr2. thats intel. the fastest amd supports is pc3200 or ddr400. but the slower speed makes for less cas latency, therefore making it perform better.

DVD Burner

You dont need to spend all the extra on sony or pioneer, or even a DL Burner. You can get a plain jane burner under $60 and use dvd shrink 3.2 and dvd decrypter 2.5 and put entire movies on one 4.7gb dvd-r that costs 15-20 cents and still have your digital audio and dvd quality picture. I have on that you always see on sale for around 40 bucks, and I've burned all kinds of movies, the first was one of those interactive porns that was about 12.7 gb and i shrank it to 4.7 and you couldnt tell the difference that and the origional. With a warranty I just think this isnt one of those things where name brand is better.

icemakr. since u didnt know taht AMD doesnt support DDR2, i think that u should just let some1 else handle this....if u dont know that about DDR2, then im scared to find out what else u dont know

mr.monger
I wasn't aware AMD didn't support DDR2, It was an honest mistake, thx for letting me know.

tweak why don't take that dick out of your ass and go pick some freakin grapes, there in Napa

But DDR still sucks!

Why FX55? You don't really need that much, I suggest you go take it down a few notches and get a amd 64 3400+ and just oc it. then take the extra cash youd save on buying a 3400+ and get a nice gpu...like, 6800ultra or x850. Plus, 1 gig ddr400 will get you buy fine, but it's up to you. Cost efficiancy is the key.

If you have the money to get the FX55 and 2GB RAm go for it. Less you have to upgrade in the future.
