building a computer

Everything matches up perfectly. You just need an AGP video card.

eVGA 128-A8-N350 Geforce 6600GT 128MB 128-bit GDDR3 AGP 4X/8X Video Card - Retail

It's a budget PC I can tell, but regardless, it will do it's job. May not be for serious gamers, but all around nice PC for the price. See if you can upgrade to Socket939 though. They are very competitve in price with the Socket 754.

that video card looks good too; is socket 939 faster?

Yes, they are. More features, faster bus, dual channel support. I'm working on a config for you so more to come. I'll keep in mind that you are on a budget.

Ok, here's an alternate plan that is low in cost for you but with added performance. It may cost a bit more, but you get what you paid for:

CHAINTECH VNF4/Ultra Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 Ultra ATX AMD Motherboard
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813152049

AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Venice 1GHz FSB 512KB L2 Cache Socket 939 Processor - Retail
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103537

--Use the hard drive that you got up there.
--You can use the RAM that you have up there too. It's not a high performance series, but it will work just fine with these new specs.

CHAINTECH SE6600G Geforce 6600GT 128MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card - Retail
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814145098

You can't get any cheaper than a 6600GT. It's got performance and at a GREAT price. I matched it up with the motherboard for max. copatibility.

thanks so much for the help :D ill make a thread this summer when i finish building it. do you have an AIM/Yahoo screen name?

I don't have Yahoo or AIM, but I have messenger. My screen name is TRDCorolla but I don't use IM that much. By next summer, parts from more higher performance setup will drop so that list is going to change big time.
