Okay guys, im building a new computer and so far this is what i have... im thinking of getting an intel quad core processor, with some sort of abit mobo because it has really good cooling because of the heatsinks and stuff on the board... Also thinkin about getting an 8800gts

Eh the GTX is too pricey for me...so i may just get a GTS, how good is it compared to the 8600 series?

I've already got a case, hard drive. I have no idea what i should do for a PSU yet... so any ideas? Thanks. This build will turn out sweet...

That's a nice mobo...nice CPU.

The 8800GTS is worlds better than the 8600 series. That's a really good card.

Instead of getting 4 gigs of that decent RAM, get 2 gigs of really fast RAM:

It's up to you, but that's what I would do. And then in the future you can upgrade to 4 gigs without worrying about your current RAM being too slow.

As for a PSU, depends how much you want to spend. At the very least, get this:

So how does the crucial memory compare? I was thinking about the Patriot Extreme Performance DDR2 2GB (2 x 1GB) PC2-8500 Eased Latency Dual Channel Kit and it is cheaper than the crucial. Is the crucial really good?

Well, the Crucial is higher quality as far as I know. I think it also has lower timings.

abit...is MADE for gaming.. they are TOP TOP compared to most other motherboard brands, there about as good as asus is.

Alright thanks free... I think im going to go with that ram. luckily i dont need another HDD and another CD/DVD drive, im just using the ones from this computer...
Also both those PSU's don't seem... quite enough for me. I am currently running a 550watt rosewill... Just wouldnt think either of those would be enough...?

Also guys, windows xp 64 bit pro edition, or windows vista 64 bit ultimate edition?

I'd recommend nothing less than a:

QX6850 or AMD Phenom FX or X4
4-16GB of DDR3-1800
Windows Vista 64 and XP 32 Dual-Booted
and an EVGA 8800GTX, 8950GX2, or 9800GTX, all with at least 640MB of VRAM

^ that'll be your mid-range even by 2009, by 2010.. different story.
