build suggestions

Hello all I'm new to the site getting ready to do my first build and am looking for some ideas. First off i did read the sticky on builds but im looking at the $750 to $1000 range and it has suggested AMD and i would like to go intel.

I'll start with what the computer will be used for. Biggest thing would be gaming, I play many games but mainly WoW. It will also be used for college but not as much, i have a laptop for most of that.

Like i said this is going to be my first build, so overclocking is questionable on wether or not ill do it.

Parts that i have looked at and am thinking of getting.

Really thats about all i got. I'm not worried about keyboard, mouse, monitor, case.
I would also like to run 64bit Vista for the OS.
But please suggest some things that would go well together and keep in mind this will be my first build. My biggest problem is finding a good mother board and knowing the advantages to a quad core over a duo. thanks in advance to any help.

I think I recommended the Phenom II 940 for this budget, I picked it out over something like the E8500 because I thought it offered more performance for the price and because AM2+/AM3 will have an upgrade path in the future unlike LGA775 which is coming to the end of it's life. Whether it's AMD or Intel, it shouldn't matter.
But if you think you know better, be my guest...

$150 is way overpriced for a 9800GT, and no, it makes no difference that it's the 1GB model. It's just a few $ away from the much more powerful HD 4870 and above the still more powerful GTS 250 (9800GTX+)/HD 4850.
