Make sure the RAM will fit the motherboard you're purchasing. It will specify what RAM the MoBo supports and will fit. Match that up with whatever he has.

Second:
Why not just buy Windows 8.1? It's only around $20 more expensive and you can downgrade to 7, and still have the option of upgrading to 8 without shelling out another $100.

Wobi here lost the info to my old account.

Sorry if this comes off offensive but i'm not a novice i looked into all that he's using Corsair Vengeance Ram DDR3 1600. So unless mobos went up to DDR4. We're good. Also we both hate Windows 8 and don't really plan on using it so Windows 7 would do fine.
