bottleneck question

Forgive me for being a little dense, but can you elaborate? I don't know if I can help, but I sure can't understand your question.:)

I have an X2 4800+ laying around, and I was thinking of upgrading my brothers computer. I also want a new graphics card, so I was going to give my 8800GT to him. But if the X2 4800+ bottlenecks the 8800GT during games, then I would most likely just keep the 8800GT.

Depends on the rest of the system. It's not always a blunt answer unless you're using older and new generations.

Does an 64 X2 4800+ bottleneck and 8800GT?
Depends on the application and your resolution.

At lower resolutions, the GPU has much less work to do, therefore the CPU becomes the bottleneck, increase the resolution and the CPU bottleneck diminishes and is eventually limited as the GPU has to do more work and becomes the bottleneck.

It depends on the app. as well, some are more CPU intensive whereas some are more GPU intensive.

Overall it's a decent combination, though.
