boot device selector (NOT bios)

hi i was told that there was a bootable program that you put on a floppy that will search for all bootable devices on a computer and then display them in a list then you select the device and the computer will boot from it.
i cant remember what the program is called can some one help me out

just go to the bios and change the boot order.

no i want/need the program. it has more options than the bios, on some machines i do not have access to the bios (i am aware of clearing it) and some Compaq models do not have an editable bios and will try a: then c: please don't reply of other whys to change the bios
