Boosting Wireless?

Hey,

About 2 years ago I got a Netgear DG834G wireless modem/router. And last week I purchased a laptop and am now realising how slow the wireless is down in my room at the other end of the house (where my desktop is). So I was wondering what my options are to increase the wireless signal and speed??
