Bookmarking MP3 Files - Audiobooks

Hi everyone, I know that .m4b is a good format for bookmarking with ipods, but are there any other formats for typical MP3 players so that I can bookmark my audiobooks? it makes no sense to listen to half of the audiobook, shut off my device, and then have to scroll through next time i listen to get to the exact same spot i left off at...

I would just convert the .m4b files to .wma , then just put them in a seperate playlist.
