Blue Ray question...

In order for blue ray to function properly on a computer what are the necessary components?

What do you mean?

To burn it you need a Blu Ray burner and Blu Ray discs. To watch movies, you need a 1080p monitor and the proper player. You can watch it on smaller monitors, but you won't get the same picture you would with a hi-def monitor.

you also need video memory of atleast 256MB and ram atleast 512 MBs but 1gb or more is recommended.
The software to run the disks will usually be supplied with the drive.

Well of course you need a blue ray burner, then you need software that can play blu ray movies like the latest Power DVD version, also you could get the latest copying sofware to back up your precious blu ray movies, such as the latest version of any DVD, would be good to have a 1080p computer display which would be 24", also would be wise to have the hardware to support it like plenty of ram and a gutsy video card preferably one with HDMI output.

The 4850 is a more powerful card. It would be more than enough for watching high definition movies and fantastic for gaming.

what about the fact of the ram on the 4670 and the HDMI output also
wouldnt that give the 4670 a slight edge?
especially connecting to that sexy LCD and being the $ point that its at?

and i have other restraints placed against me to add one to my pc
i only have one expansion slot open
and a PCIe x16 2.0 that is open
i have cards above and below it
so i have like no room for a 1 GB 4850
even if they are supposed to fit in a single slot
they dont look like they will to me with that massive cooler on them

The VRAM doesn't kick in until higher resolutions. The stream processors are the biggest jump. The higher the amount, the better the card can perform. Usually 512MB is more than enough to run just about any game at decent settings at 1900x1200 or lower. I take that back, it doesn't include Crysis, haha. A 512MB version of that card will be enough for you. Especially if you're just playing movies not games. You could even go for a cheaper 9600GT or the ATI equivalent.
