Blank DVD's

i use cloneDVD. you put in a disc, it will prepare what files it needs on your hdd. then you put a blank disc in, burn the files and its copied. its good stuff.
im not sure wether what you want to do is illegal or not but i know what id do ;)

Not If I used them for my own viewing pleasure.

That's only if you bought the DVD and made a copy of it for yourself (such as backing it up in case you scratch your original). Renting a DVD is not buying the DVD. Therefore copying a rental DVD even for only yourself is still illegal...

Jesusfrk611 is correct on the legal matter on copying rental DVDs. As for brands of black media, Ridata and Verbatim are two brands I have herd good reviews on. If you are really worried about it, just go to newegg.com and check out reviews on the disks and see what people say. Also, DVD+R is usually a better format for DVD videos.
