I use EVGA Precision (similar idea) with a fan curve. On my old GTX280 is seemed to permanently sit at 30% usage by default even when it was getting to 100+ degrees (my PC did shut down due to overheating a couple of times). Manually setting a fan curve helped a huge amount.

When you install new drivers by the way, use "Display Driver Uninstaller," or something like that first to ensure the original drivers are wiped completely from the system.
