Ok, I looked into the computer, and reseated the Ram, and the processor, and nothing smelled like it was burned. Tried turning it on, and it would start up, for 2 seconds, than shut back off. One night before the whole problem came he shut it off before going to sleep, and inthe morning it was turning itself on and off. Than, if he didnt turn off the circuit it would continue to do that. But if he left it off for a while it would run for 20 minutes before shutting off. If the circuit was left on, the computer would turn itself on every couple hours, and than shut off again. Wierd, problem. Its a dell 5100.

It sounds like heat issue if it's shutting down like that. I had a socket A machine that shut down because the heatsink wasn't seated right.

The contacts on the switch have probably been touching each other causing weird power issues. Good that it's all fixed though.
