Default Icons On The Loose, Folders look like files - Big Emergency, weird sound

I'm really worried about this computer I just had built for me a month ago.

Suddenly it started making this wizzing sound and then about 30 minutes later my icons dissapeared! all the little icons on the taskbar became invisible and then the start menu had the whole left side (shortcuts) covered in 'unknown file type' icons. ALL folders now also have this 'unknown file type' icon as well!

This is taken of my F: portition, it shows 4 folders.

This is my start menu.

System Restore didn't seem to work for me, neither did rebooting it.

Don't know if this'll work, but try using TuneUp Utilities 2007 It cleans and repairs and defrags the registry, cleans junk files, optimises memory usage, checks hard disks for errors, etc.

Or you could use any other system utility program of your choice. This is the only one I trust.

Yeah, if it were me, i would first try the TuneUp thing, then re-install XP...and if that didn't work, would reformat....

.. This exact thing happened to me a few days ago but now it seems that Its all normal.. I went into windows repair and did a new bootsector and just all that type of stuff... But before that I did system restore.. Now everything works fine.. I think its just something in system services that gets disabled by a virus or something.. I have no anti virus/spyware installed on my PC lol. Cant be bothered. I dont look at Pr0n.. I just torrent alot.

NOD32 is the best. i was a reseller of that for awhile and its a really nice program, unlike norton it just does its job, it doesnt try to be a super firewall or save the world, it just stops and kills viruses. Also its not huge in size. Once you go Nod you never go back... : )

Raff you always here mate.
