Default Best virus scanning program

What is one of the best virus scanning applications out there now. I know that you should use more than one, but what is the best free & Paid in your Opinion.

Not at the same time you shouldn't, never run two AV's as resident.

NOD32 is the best paid one in my opinion but for free ones go with AVG or Avast.
