Default Best tool for making virtual mechanical design and animation

I want to design simple things, for example a RC steering mechanism then watch it in action as if it would in reality, with realistic animation.

Any suggestions?

I haven't tried this program, but heard it is used just for that. Look into a program called Poser version 6 or 7. It allows you to create 3d images and create motions for those images. Hopefully this helps you out.
