best roleplaying game?

what is the best roleplaying game? I was reading about vanguard it looks pretty good but i always like other peoples opinions.

What kind of RPGs are we talking about MMOs, single player, both?

I can't vouch for MMOs. THe only one i've ever played (with the exception of Rune Scape but i want to forget that) is Guild Wars. I'm too cheap to pay every month, and that has good game play.

But Oblivion and Dark Messiah are Awsome as well.

I believe WoW is like $12.95 or something... but honestly, I think that game is a waste of your life.

RPG-wise, I think there are better games on consoles.. but on PC, games like Oblivion, Fable, Diablo2, and Guild Wars are all pretty good games.
