Best place to mount temp sensors?

I havn't had any experience with mounting the temp sensors up. I checked the manual and it says mount close to the cpu not directly on the cpu. The sensors came with 3 small strips that are for holding them in place. Were is the best place to mount these to get the most accurate reading without hurting anything. Spec's below if needed. Have sensors for CPU,HD, and GPU.

uhh mine for the water cooling it right on the cpu, then i put the thermal paste on that than my watercooling heatsink.

Right now I just have the stock fan. I'll probally be getting a zalman cooler shortly. Should I mount it on the side of the fan facing towards the cpu?
