6600GT cards are best around that price.

Get the BFG 6600GT if you can find it for that price, retail is 250, but see what you can find

I'd get a 9800 (Radeon) or a 9600 pro if the other one is too costy.

I would avoid previous generation technology and go with the 6600GT. If I was looking to upgrade I would get the 6600GT. The 9800 Radeon doesn't even stack up against the FX5900.. so how could it possibly be any good against the 6600GT?

http://www.xpcgear.com/bfg66gtocagp.html - not to mention it has GDDR3 memory.

Yes I know it is $39 more then what you wanted.. but this is the best bang for the buck.

Well he probably wants to spend his money on the newest generation of cards.. not the previous generation 9800 Pro, or the generation before that, the 9600 Pro.

if you want a 9600 get the sapphire 9600xt ultimate edition, its probably the best non-OC'ed 9600 you can get, but again, you could get a 6600gt, which is probably your best bet, Aopen makes a pretty good one that they sell for about 194 US dollars on newegg

BFG also has huge heatsinks that take up to many slots on my mobo, at least for the 6800 series anyway... I like the slimline look of MSI, and Aopen.

I think it is better then MSI (cooling is better). I never said MSI was terrible or fails. It is good. But BFG is better.
