The only thing I have to add to that is spybot and you are good to go.

I use antiVir.

It works really really good, I tried out NOD32 and antvir uses less resources, and I never had a virus.

AntiVir and AVG are both very good. Haven't tried any other free ones.

For spyware I use ad-aware and spybot.

I like AVG free edition, claimwin AV is also good too. Adaware, windows defender and spybot are a good combination for antispyware and hijackthis is a necessity, it lets you delete stuff that a lot of other programs miss.

Do you get updates?? EDIT - I looked into it, apparently it does . Something to give a try...

I use AVG Free and Ad-Aware. I have a router, so I just use Windows Firewall. I also do HijackThis scans from time to time. Never had a problem with that combination.
