Default Belkin PCI Firewire card F5U504 - Not compatible with Windows 7?

Have been failing over last few weeks trying to get a Firewire port onto my HP p6598uk(PCI exprees slot). Took advice and purchased the wrong card online. Local computer retailers cannot help. Advised that Belkin 3-port PCI express card would do the trick. Checked with the Windows compatible site, says ok bot to double/triple check I emailed Belkin direct and they have just informed me that the product is not Windows 7 compatible. They are working on the drivers and will announce when they have made the breakthrough. There must be someone out there who has overcome this problem and put a compatible card in their PC. My camcorder is a Panasonic NV-GS5 and Panasonic says that I need a firewire port to transfer data. Have all the movie software installed just cannot transfer. Getting to the stage where I am thinking of chucking the camcorder. Any further advice please?
