Default Been out of the game a while. Looking to build a new computer.

Well haven't built a computer in ages, as you can probably tell from the joindate/signature and i'm a bit out of date with the current hardware. i'm basically looking to build a computer for around $500ish (dont need monitor, keyboard, mouse, speakers etc.) Main functions will be school related and I don't plan on doing much gaming.

Now I plan on doing my own research for this build, but if anyone could give me some quick information on new hardware to assist my research it would be greatly appreciated (ie intel vs amd and all that).

First of all welcome back and nice to see you even though I don't know you. If you are in USA have you thought of going for a kit like this Intel Core i5-4430 Processor/GIGABYTE GA-B85M-HD3/8GB DDR3 Patriot Viper Xtreme Memory/LG 24x DVDRW/Kingwin LED Fan/ENYLE E-Series ATX Mid Tower Case / Kingwin Maximum Series ATX 650W PSU at TigerDirect.com, All you would need is a hard drive and your ready to rumble..

Well AMD should suit you fine. And if you look around I'm sure you can get a barebones FX-8350 for around that price. And as there will be little in the way of gaming, the on board graphics should be fine.

Intel processor (i3 or better), 8GB RAM, and a 500GB+ hard drive and you should be ready to rock.
